Esther 윤경 Kim

She is the former Digital Communications Manager of the Asian American Writers’ Workshop, a literary nonprofit in NYC. She joined as an editor of The Margins, the literary magazine of the Workshop, where she produced hundreds of stories and curated “Monsoon Notebook.” She had a career in books (New York City and London) for nearly a decade.
She writes a column for The Korea Times on Asian diasporic experience. You can find her essays and criticism on books and foods in The Guardian, The Nation, and The Infatuation, among many others. She also writes and edits branded content for global clients.
Her current literary nonfiction project about nature and the Korean experience has received support from Sterling College (USA), Granta (UK), and the Vermont Studio Center (USA).
Born in the Bronx and raised in New York, Esther is a traveler and heirloom bean enthusiast. She regularly volunteered with New York City’s Girls Write Now, the very nonprofit that nurtured her teenage ambitions, and she likes cycling through her city and spending time with friends and family. She lives in Taiwan with her longtime partner and the rare gecko. 🌻

She holds a Masters in Korean Studies (Literature pathway) from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London and a Masters in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh. She earned her B.A. at Wellesley College near Boston.
Research interests include ecology and war; cultural history; media studies.
